Classes for the smallest children take the form of a game.
Requirements for technique and stricter discipline are introduced for children from the age of 7 years, but we still play with them and give them the opportunity to do things not only for the sake of results, but for the sake of pleasure from the process. Children of all ages like doing the "wheel," pretending to move a carriage, or tumbling like a ninja, or performing animal-like movements, doing Amazonia. In training sessions we practice a special game, Amazonia, in which children perform exercises imitating different animals – dogs, elephants, giraffes, even snails. Amazonia aids physical development, opens up artistic abilities and a sense of rhythm. And altogether – this is capoeira, and one without the other is not possible :)
Practice in Spanish, English and Portuguese languages: this is a great motivation for Russian children to learn languages, and it puts expatriates at ease during training, since one of the coaches – Graduado Bangu – is a native speaker of Spanish, also speaks English and Portuguese, and is learning Russian.
Associação Brasileira de Apoio e Desenvolvimento da Arte-Capoeira – or ABADÁ-Capoeira – translates as "The Brazilian Association for the Support and Development of the Art of Capoeira."
ABADÁ-Capoeira was founded in 1988 by Mestre Camisa, who to this day is its president and coordinates the work of organizations throughout the world. ABADÁ-Capoeira is headquartered in Rio de Janeiro. Trainers from around the world, including from Russia, meet there annually to improve their qualifications.
The history of the Russian branch of ABADÁ-Capoeira began in 2002, and the first Batizado (official dedication ceremony in capoeira with change of belts) took place in 2004 in Moscow. Branches of the school operate in 17 Russian cities (St. Petersburg, Samara, Tolyatti, Chelyabinsk, Kazan and others). Every year, our trainers attend Russian and international seminars and competitions (including in Brazil), and are certified trainers of the international ABADÁ-Capoeira school.
At present the school has about 150,000 members in 47 countries. If students of ABADA-Capoeira go on vacation or study in another country where there is a branch of our school, they can continue to train as if at home – in the same manner, with familiar terminology. And the school's popularity provides the possibility to meet all kinds of people from all over the world, and make new friends who are also students. These people may be not only athletes, but also architects, doctors, builders, artists, and actors. For example, Graduado Tarubi trains actor Vincent Cassel in Paris.
Throughout training, capoeira instruments are played – atabaque (drum), pandeiro (tambourine); berimbau (a stringed instrument, the main instrument of capoeira), Agogo – a percussion instrument made from coconuts :) Anybody who wants to can learn to play them!
Zhenya's training is the perfect combination of sport and play. Children get a great deal from it: besides physical development, it's also a positive burst of energy, teamwork and interaction with the other students and the trainer. And for small kids, the contact with parents is invaluable – when each discovers new sides of the other and can see themself or their child through a fresh set of eyes. Give him a little more freedom, and myself too. Do not push, do not pull and do not demand that everything be done all at once, but follow the child and feel wonder at how much the child is capable of, if he is interested. And training is really interesting – giraffes, frogs and owls, and running and jumping on the mats. And when they grow up, they enthusiastically practice without help and are happy to help smaller kids.
I would like to express great thanks to the coach Evgenia Melinger, for her professionalism and her excellent work with children during capoeira training for groups of toddlers and older children. Through her teaching methods, the children quickly catch on, have a great desire to practice and show good results. Evgenia has an individual approach to every young student, which is very important for children and parents alike.
My son is 6 years old. It is his fourth year of doing capoeira and he likes it a lot. He started when he was 2 years old, and thanks to the professionally constructed classes, he quickly moved ahead in terms of physical development (improved flexibility, attention, agility, ability to group together with others, sense of rhythm), which is very important for children. Another plus is that during classes with small children (in which parents also take part), interactions with parents are on a different level from usual. There is a joint commitment to practice and improve. The child copies the parents, and they have to improve. Capoeira is a very interesting martial art, which includes music and technique and acrobatics. It all contributes to the multifaceted development of the child.
Choosing activities for my daughter wasn't easy: She's very active, and we didn't want to wait until she reached 3 or 4 years of age (when most groups start their intakes).
I used to do capoeira and I believe it will also benefit my daughter.
The child began to understand that the class is not just a game with other kids, and that's thanks to our trainer who runs classes in the form of a game, but also a responsibility. Not straight away, but gradually, my daughter came to understand what training is, and to train!
The classes began to develop physical fitness and general coordination (a better understanding of one's body). Positive contact with other children in training correspondingly affects general condition and mood.
For us, capoeira is a game in which you don't only develop physically, but also learn to develop strategy and a game plan.
Nowadays children are increasingly doing the same thing, but at a computer, which is not the best thing for their health.
Here there is no aggression, like in other martial arts, but at the same time a person understands and with experience gets to know their physical capabilities in the game, and in life.
